Continuing wit my Monthly book series I'm exploring the excellent tips found in Eric Maisel's Coaching the Artist Within. This week we're looking at Skill #8: Committing to the Goal Oriented Process.
There are some wonderfully profound and simple precepts found in this chapter. My two favorites are:
~Sometimes hating your novel (or other undertaking) is part of the process. Yo will sometimes actually hate the process, even as you fully understand that there can be no other process, no way around it. You must accept this truth.
~Since you have goals - and you do - you must surrender to the fact that a committment to goal-oriented rocess, not goal-less process is required of you.
Here are some tips for helping a traditional creative or anyone for that matter, commit to a goal oriented process:
-
~~ Craft a mission statement (or vision statement specific to the project you're working on)
~~ Explore the top three focus points you will adhere to in your goal-oriented process.
~~ Decide that you want to commit and write an affirmation that communicates this. Print it out and keep it nearby.
~~ Connect with and comunicate with the thoughts and images that inspired you to create/work on your project often. Stay connected to the inspriational flow.

Remember, time is short. Do your happy dance. Enjoy life!
